Trebonianus Gallus-Viminacium
« on: February 01, 2020, 05:46:51 am »
This ae 24 by Gallus for Viminacium leaves me perplexed.
On the obverse IMP C GALLUB P FEL (ix avg)
On the reverse in exergue it should be AN XIII I read AN XVI, but probably the I's are badly written.
The obverse the B instead of the S could be a mistake in the legend as it is in the same position as when another legend is used with TREB.
I thank the opinions and greetings

Hi. For the year in exergue, there are  4 possibilities : XII, XIII, XIII or XIV. So yours is surely XIII. I have to admit the "S" looks like a "B". Maybe a worn die or a mistake by the engraver.

Hi,

Gallus has a big bronze in AN XVI, as Pick and Pick -Martin described...

Pick: 169, and Martin: 5.21.1-3. depends on what is the end of the obverse legend...

IMP C GALLVS P FELIX AVG or

IMP C GALLVS P FELIX AG

but it is not visible...

 The reverse legend:

PMS C- OL VIM

In Exergue:

AN XVI

Thanks also I think it is 14 year AN XVI.
The doubt of B remains in place of S of GALLUS
