Reference number for Aegeae. Severus Alexander, boot right
« on: January 11, 2020, 12:28:57 pm »
Dear Friends,

there is no end to the coins I cannot pin point. This time I have a specimen of
Cilicia, Aegeae. Severus Alexander with foot in boot (sandal) with Asklepios peaking out of it for some reason.
All boots I have seen point left, this one points right. Would anyone know of a speciment where the boot points right?
It is highly annoying for an amateur like me that Roman Provincial references are scattered all over the place with very few works having them all under one umbrella.
AE26, 7.47 g

Thanks in advance
Best wishes,
Burak

RPC online shows only boots left. You should send them your example as a possible new type.

https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/search/browse?volume_id=&number=&city_id=8&region_id=&province_id=&subprovince_id=&issue_id=&reign_id=&date_min=&date_max=&obverse_inscription_simplified=&reverse_inscription_simplified=&obverse_design=&reverse_design=boot&metal_id=&weight_min=&weight_max=&diameter_min=&diameter_max=&format=

There is a german publication discussing this type, but I don't have access to it:

F. Haymann, Untersuchungen zur Geschichte und Identitätskonstruktion von Aigeai im römischen Kilikien (20 v. - 260 n. Chr.) (Bonn, 2014)

Yes, thanks. I had seen those and few are on AC too. I will email them if I can figure out how. They changed their image donation system.

Heymann's work ends with Trajan. The summary and index is on academia.
LATER:
Oh yes, sorry, I missed the later pages, my Firefox had updated itself and was playing up. And it was gone 3 a.m. and I didn't want to restart my PC.

Heymann's article ends with Trajan.

I dont't think so.

The title says (20 v. - 260 n. Chr. / 20BC - AD 260) and RPC online cites the Haymann article for the Severus Alexander types.

Last emperor (chapter III 5.6) is Valerian.

Chapter IV 2.3.3. seems to describe this type. It is called "Der Fuß des Sarapis?" (The foot of ...)

If something has 422 pages then it is a book and no longer an article  :). It has been the dissertation of Florian Haymann, and for that you have to produce something.

You can see the table of contents (cited by Shanxi) here:

Sorry, see my edited comment above.
The book costs 98 Euros and is available from Habelt GmbH.
