1st time help 2nd coin - late roman bronze - a Constans?
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:59:06 pm »
I have 4 coins that I am trying to ID.  Here is the second (and last for today).  I have spent some time looking, and believe it is a Constans coin, with two victories reverse reverse, Siscia mint.  I'd like some help to be sure, and welcome any constructive comments.

The coin is 15mm at its widest point.  My scale measures grams, and this one comes at about 1 gram.

I hope this enough to go on, with the pictures.  The pictures are with my iPhone - what do most people use?

If I've messed up, sorry!

Thanks, Greg

A good brushing with a stiff nylon brush would possibly remove much of the crud and dirt on the surface and increase legibility.

After an acetone bath and a brush, here are some new pictures

Thanks to those who have responded.  Would you agree that it is likely a Constantius II from  Thessalonica?

I really appreciate the help!

Plus, this is fun!

You have the right attribution.

Not to be critical but I would be careful with your cleaning.  You are exposing the bare metal on the highlights.

Don't brush with anything but a nylon brush (a cut-down toothbrush is fine), a silver-bristle brush (hard to find) or a special soft-brass bristle brush (NOT the same as a regular brass bristle brush).  None of these should expose bare metal.

Also best to avoid the acetone unless strictly necessary to remove something like sticky vinyl residue.
