Brutus denarius OTD.

Even though it is struck off centre on the obverse with a prominent banker's mark, and the reverse is a little unevenly struck, it is still an attractive example of an historically important coin.

Q. CAEPIO BRUTUS, known as M. Junius Brutus (c.54 B.C.), silver denarius, (3.90 g), obv. head of Liberty to right, LIB[ERTAS] behind, rev. The consul L. Junius Brutus walking to left, between two lictors preceded by an accensus, BRVTVS in exergue, (S.397, Cr.433/1, Syd.906, B Junia 31).

Two great examples.  Thanks for sharing them.  This also reminded me that I've not gotten around to adding my example of the type to my Forum gallery.  That will change very soon!

Thank you my friends for your kind comments. Jay your coin is just excellent, and looking at it made me have another close look at my example. The expression on the face of Liberty on both examples looks sad to me, as if she knows what the price of liberty is likely to be.

Best regards,

Steve

Thanks Steve.  I think you're right, good observation.  I never got that before you mentioned it.
