Roman Signet Ring with Running Hare intaglio
« on: October 17, 2019, 04:16:33 pm »
Ave!

Copper alloy

The running hare seen on the ring seems to be a popular motif for the time but can anyone make a guess as to the image above the hare?

Thanks,

Kevin

Amphora?  Ring might have belonged to someone with connections to wine or olive oil. Just guessing of course.

Looks like a hunter and his dog (not a rabbit, despite the ears: see the tail).
Here is a quite similar intaglio from the BM.
