identifying small copper coin
« on: October 07, 2019, 03:19:59 pm »
Hi all,
Would you be kind enough to identify this small coin for me?
The coin is about 15mm x1mm half dome shape and has two kings? holding a cross. I believe it is copper, but could be wrong.
Sorry I am not in the hobby and am not really sure how to describe it for you. I collect banknotes, so this is not my specialty.

All your help is much appreciated :)

It's a bronze Byzantine trachy, dating from the 11-14th century. Yours appears to be clipped, which is common with these coins. I do not know much about Byzantine coinage, so I can't offer a more precise identification, but there is still a lot of detail on your coin, so I'm sure someone here can tell you more.

Thank you Glenn, you are right!
I found it, looks to be this one:
1204-1224 AD. Billon Aspron Trachy, large module (2.9 g), Thessalonica mint. Sear 2057

This coin has been bugging me for so long, now it clear it's a Byzantine coin.
