This thesis studies two main issues:

First, the role of dynastic politics during the third-century crisis;

Secondly, the absence of dynastic strategy for the post-Gallienic period. The dynastic strategies prevalent used between A.D. 235 and 260 are examined and the study examines how they were used to legitimize and stabilize the current reign, as well as arranging the succession.These strategies are assessed in comparison with the successful earlier strategies implemented by founding emperors of previous dynasties. In the later half of the period (A.D. 260-285) most of these strategies were dropped and there is little evidence of any dynastic politics. The possible explanations for such a reversal in imperial policy are also explored.

Always happy to see people studying the Crisis. It's such a challenging area source-wise, yet so incredibly interesting. The Crisis is also an area where our hobby is one of the best possible sources of evidence as text from or about the period is often less reliable.
