A 55 parliament of Owls
« on: June 23, 2019, 07:18:11 am »
Athens New Style rules the roost from c 164-c 47 BC.

The collection comprises of 26 / 28 of the early Thompson catalogue; a smattering of middle catalogue, and a smaller selection of the early catalogue focused on the Rome-Pontic struggle. Also a nice collection of the rarer post-Sullan coins and a Sullan "Lucullan" pseudo-Athenian Thompson type ll.The collection also has 3 important imitations.
I had thought I would never get a Thompson 2 Palms #5 but I broke the bank and got one just after my previous splurge on a Thompson #2 Bakhos & Kernos.
I replaced my Trident with abetter example which I am struggling to classify and I think it might be a new obverse.

All in all I think a nice collection of a less appreciated coin type.

I must have missed this when originally posted.   This is a fabulous collection, Cicerokid!  Congratulations.  Please share the obverses, as well, if time permits.  I know that's the less "academic" side of these coins, but still of interest to many of us.

That is an impressive collection indeed. It must be great to look at, and dare I say, handle.

Great coins and photo.  If you ever have the time to label the collective photos with the catalog numbers, that would be very informative to non specialists.   These types are hard to differentiate without side by side photos like yours!
