Titus Silver Cistophorus - Temple of Capitoline Jupiter
« on: June 11, 2019, 08:13:33 am »
Hello everyone.

During his short reign, Titus struck only four large silver coins, meant to circulate in the Adia province: two with his own portrait and two with his brother's Domitian.

While I have both the Domitian coins from a long time, I never owned one of Titus until now.

Finally I managed to get one, with the always fascinating reverse of the main temple in the Roman Forum.

I'm pleased to share it here.

Alberto

Nice coin!  Must be scarce.  Looked on Wildwinds and couldn't find this coin.  I did find the other specimen you mentioned.
Titus AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm. Rome mint, for Asia, 80-81 AD. IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head right / Aquila between two standards. RSC 398.   I have this coin but not in as nice condition as those on Wildwinds

Hi Bob, thanks for your kind compliments.

I agree that this type is significantly rarer than the rarity index attributed to it by R.I.C. suggests.
