Just a heads up to everyone who has been waiting—According to Amazon, it will be available April 14th.

Looking into my Amazon account I see that they claim that I will get the book on Thursday.
On the other hand you cannot order it at the moment, "not available".

It is not the first time they announce a near delivery date. I will believe it when I hold the book in my hands, not before  ;).

This week I got a message from Amazon (Germany) that they are not able to provide the book and are cancelling my order  >:(.

I don't know what is happening there, but whoever is editing this opus seems to do a suboptimal job  :-\.

I am pretty sure I saw a print copy at ANS.  Try ordering it their Oxbow site.

The book is listed there, but with the remark "Not yet published - advance orders taken"  ;):

I believe the book does not exist yet  :-\, whatever the reasons are.

I feel like there should be an official status update.

Meanwhile I’m reading Schaps’ work on early coinage.  He ultimately advocates for Head’s original hypothesis that the Artemission hoard does show a progression and the earliest types were used to balance the scale on larger transactions.

So, my order on Amazon was also just canceled due to lack of availability.

I corresponded with one of the editors--the book is still scheduled to be printed this summer.  So perhaps the confusion is from Oxbow and Amazon, not the ANS.

Oxbow books is not reliable.  I went through this same exercise with them when I was looking for the Sofaar collection book.  They took advance orders and kept pushing back the publication date for YEARS.  They are overly optimistic and takes orders when they should not be doing so.  Bottom line, the book is not published until it is published; being able to submit an advance order means NOTHING.

This must be a new record for years between conference and publication of papers!

Three months on, and the vigil continues for White Gold: Studies in Early Electrum Coinage.

The Casemate/Oxbow site still has 'pre-order' language for the White Gold book. "Status: Not Yet Published - Available for pre-order"
See https://www.oxbowbooks.com/dbbc/white-gold.html
How odd that Oxbow would show a publication date of 2019 and ISBN 978-0-89722-349-2, but not have it available.

The ANS makes no mention of availability, just the comment "the expanded scope of the volume delayed publication."  See http://numismatics.org/store/whitegold/.

Quite a price difference for non-members.

My wife and I visited Israel in June 2012, and we got to spend about half a day at the Israel Museum.  I literally ran through the museum looking for numismatic exhibits of hoards, etc..

Towards the end of my visit I came upon the exhibit gallery marked "White Gold".  And while I hadn't yet developed an interest in collecting electrum coins, I went inside.  The room was very dark and in the middle was a round lighted display case filled with electrum coins.  The walls were adorned with enlarged images of (I assume) various coins in the exhibit.

I snapped a couple of quick images of the central exhibit case before I had to leave to meet up with the rest of our party.  Here are a few examples......

I just received the E-News email from ANS, and it includes this notice about the book:

White Gold is now at the printer!

White Gold: Studies in Early Electrum Coinage collects the most complete, current scholarship on the history of known examples of ancient electrum coinage of the Greek world, with text, catalogs, and images. After much waiting, this volume will be ready to ship on March 17, 2020.

I can't see it very well Molinari from your picture, could you mail it to me so I could check it out more closely???  Please?

I do plan to get it (especially if you send it to me) but not until I get a round to-it.

I knew a girl way back (not that way though) and she and her boyfriend made little tokens that were round, and that they called "to-its."  Therefore when someone said 'I will do it when I get a round-to-it,' they would give them a round to-it.

But, alas I never did get a round to-it, not for lack of procrastination.  I definitely will get the White Gold book.  But if I get it, I will want to read it, and there are other things I should be doing.  But, it looks wonderful, from what I can see.  It is a matter of reaching critical mass, where the scales tip from one side to the other, and I cannot stand not getting it anymore.  But, thank you for sharing, particularly your enthusiasm now and in the past.

 +++

Kind regards,
John

It is really magnificent so far.  If I remember correctly, all total, with shipping, it was under $150 with the ANS discount--a really tremendous bargain.  Dare I even say--worth the wait!!!

So what are the first impressions of the publication from those of you have received a copy?

I did not order one (yet?), as while I do have an interest in and a small collection of early electrum, I wasn't sure what the book would actually contain.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has a copy......
