True story, which I share in the spirit of April fools (the joke's on me).
I collect primarily ancient Greek coinage, and there is a retired minister from my
church whom I mean regularly for coffee. He has collected coins in the past (copper pennies and Susan B Anthony's) and likes me sharing what I have with him.
One time, we got together for coffee and I brought a
replica of a Naxian
Tetradrachm, which has the coolest picture of a
head of
Dionysus facing right. Of course, if you know the coin, you know what I forgot was on the other
side. Of course, I gave it to the retired minister, to show him the wonderful
portrait of
Dionysus,
He looked at it, and did the obvious thing, turned it over to look at the other
side. Coming
face to well..... with a squatting satyr with a huge phallus on the
reverse of the coin. Opps!
He didn't say anything, he didn't really react, something that ministers are
good at when their congregation does something stupid. That was maybe 10 years ago, we are
still going out for coffee, and I
still show him my coins, TAKING EXTRA SPECIAL CARE TO NOTE WHAT IS ON THE
REVERSE.
I also have a Caulonia
incuse stater that I realize afterward, has been bobbitized. [Lorena Bobbit got mad at her husband John Bobbit, they of course afterwards divorced, he did have it re-attached and later starred in a porn film called, wait for it.... John Bobbit, Uncut.
Happy April fools. (again, true stories, can't make something like this up).
