Two unpublished Flavian AEs
« on: March 21, 2019, 01:53:01 pm »
Hello everyone.

Recently I've been lucky to get two unpublished Flavian provincials: they will both appear in the RPC II online (coming soon).

The first one is an attractive Domitian AE26 from Nicaea in Bithynia. It was wrongly advertised as RPC II 645, which is quite another coin (different denomination and different kind of altar on reverse). The big altar on reverse is the same as in the SALVTI AVGVSTI type in the imperial series. It was given the reference 640A.

The other one is a variant  of RPC II 1605 from the Antiochia in Pisidia mint: the bust is draped and cuirassed here, not only laureate as in the 1605 corr.: It was given the reference 1605A (consequently the reference of the Domitian coin in Supplement 2 has been changed in 1605B).

The Titus portrait is amazing in my opinion.

I'm pleased to share these coins.

Alberto
