Germanicus possibly smoothed at some point
« on: March 11, 2019, 07:08:40 pm »
I'm trying to learn smoothing.  Was this Germanicus possibly smoothed at some point years ago?  The green deposits would seem to say no, but the background on both sides just look a bit too smooth.  I could use some help here.

I always look at the edge outside the inscription. It's hard for a tooler to get at, and if it looks significantly rougher than the fields, that's a giveaway.

That is most helpful.  Thank you, I've always had trouble detecting smoothing.
