Very interesting coin Agord.
Two questions.
First, it looks like there might actually be a
star in the
reverse left
field, immediately to the left of the spear. It looks like a small blob in the image, but could it be a worn
star??
Second, is the S actually raised, or is it just a lighter spot or scratch on the
patina?
The special
obverse bust with globe came in when the falling horseman was introduced at
Rome on the issue with the
star in the
reverse field, likely in mid-349. The S
had appeared on the Galley issue just before this. It is possible that an engraver simply made a mistake by adding an S out of habit......
