Hoard find in Warwickshire, Rngland
« on: February 18, 2019, 06:03:59 am »
A pot -hoard has been found somewhere in Warwickshire.
They are trying to raise money to buy it.

It looks to be a Roman hoard of mixed types and dating 68/9 BC

Isn't the dates corresponding to Boudicca and that the last battle is claimed to have taken place near Mancetter ( supposedly meaning the place of the Chariots?, which is also in Warwickshire?

I assume they mean containing coin types as far back as 68/9 BC?

The inclusion of a Nero denarius seems to indicate a terminus post quem of at least some time during or after his reign.

Boudicca's revolt was in Nero's reign so that part makes sense.

Now they are daying it closes with the year of the 4 emperors!

It might help if they just took photographs back and front of all the coins. A bit like the Poggio Picenze hoard in Chieti. The simplest thing seems to be the most difficult.

Maybe like the Poggio Picenze it is someones personal fiefdom and publication would spoil their control and raison de whatever!

Possibly lost during the chaos of the civil wars then.
