Large Lithic Pendant or Bead
« on: March 22, 2016, 08:22:33 pm »
Hi, all.  Here is a large bead or pendant from the beach south of Caesarea Maritima, so it could be almost any age from Neolithic, to Late Hellenistic to Modern!  Any ideas would be welcome.  Thanks, V-drome

BCC BD4
Stone Pendant or Bead
Uncertain date
Dark gray stone of medium-high hardness with
six flat edges and a double curve at the top.  Slightly
asymmetrical, but weighted so as to hang point down.
Possibly made of basalt or very hard limestone.
The hole is drilled from both sides with a
very small opening in the middle.

Max. dimension: 4.1cm.  Thickness: 0.65cm.
Weight: 21.36gm.

Hi, all. I am working on some of the beads in our collection and thought I might bump this topic of a very large one!  Thanks, v-drome.
