« on: January 03, 2019, 12:08:36 pm »
Ave!

Copper alloy; 48mm x 19mm x 0.5mm/2.5gm

Are these Roman or from another culture?

Help!

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes, Roman lorica squamata scales.

Exact parallels are in Simon James' Excavations at Dura-Europos 1928-1937: Final Report VII: The Arms and Armour and other Military Equipment (Oxbow, 2010).  Catalogue numbers: 454, 462, 463, 465 which are 7 to 10 mm wide and 21 to 27 mm long.

He notes that parallels are also known from Musov, Slovakia and Razgrad, Bulgaria

Ave!

Shawn, thank you so much for your Roman confirmation!
Can you provide the dates?

Ave Jay GT4,

I actually have eight of them in total.

Best regards,

Kevin
