Favorite Ancient Greek Fiction
« on: December 25, 2018, 09:09:13 pm »
So I searched the threads for historical fiction ideas and found some, but they mainly focused on Ancient Rome. I wonder if anyone had any recommendation for historical fiction on Ancient Greece. Here are my favorites:

Stephen Pressfield's books - Gates of Fire, The Last Amazon, The Virtues of War, The Afghan Campaign, and, to a lesser extent, The Tides of War

David Gemmel's Troy Trilogy, but also the Lion of Macedon and the Dark Prince (2 book series)

Helen of Troy by Margarate George

Circe by Madeline Miller

The Olympian by E.S. Kraay

The Tyrant Series (only books 1 and 2) by Christian Cameron

Books on order that I haven't read yet include the following:

1. Persian Fire by Tom Holland
2. Achilles his Armour, Alexander of Macedon, and The Laughter of Aphrodite by Peter Green
3. Last of the Wine by Mary Renault

If anyone has any other recommendations it would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Nathan and Board,

Late Christmas greetings and a title for your list!

The Eighth Arrow:  Odysseus in the Underworld, A Novel (2018), by J. Augustine Wetta.

I haven't read the book yet and really don't know a whole lot about it, but for some reason I found the synopsis and even the title itself intriguing.  I do appreciate originality.

Best regards,

3. Last of the Wine by Mary Renault

She wrote quite a few novels set in ancient Greece. I read many of them decades ago when I was in middle through high school. Here is her biography on wikipedia with a list of her novels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Renault

I like this thread and look forward to reading some of the books that are recommended on here.
