Follis of Contantine II
« on: December 03, 2018, 03:07:32 pm »
Hi guys. I need some help with this coin. It's supposed to be a follis of Contantine II, I believe the reference is RIC VII: 441.

I have some doubts because of what looks like a relatively poor workmanship compared to other Constantinian-era bronzes, especially regarding the Ceasar's face. At the same time some elements (like the wreath on the reverse) look very detailed and sharp. Is it genuine coin? Perhaps the rugged look is because of corrosion?

Hello. Thank you for your answer and welcoming.

Yes, I have the coin on hand. It weights 2.77 g and measures about 18 mm in diameter.

I had a quick look through my files and found a coin from the same series from Trier as well with a very similar appearence - I did not look if it was a die match for the obverse.
