A group of fake Celtic coins (Dembski 1095; OTA 147)
« on: November 13, 2018, 08:52:41 am »
The dealer I bought this coin from told me I was right about my suspicions of inauthenticity and to send it back. This is the coin, which I'll delete from my gallery soon.

The dealer is also removing a similar coin from the current auction.

Others of these coins have found there way into other auctions. The tell-tale signs are the edge breaks at 8:30 and 12:00 on the obverse, and the 9:00 on the reverse. The reverse also has an area of roughness at 12:00.

Hi Nathan,

Are these the same coins as described in the thread here:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=115370.msg701883#msg701883

I have added the fake coin report (I forgot to do it back then).

The link to the image is broken since you have removed it from the gallery. If it is different than the ones in the report, please add them to the fake coin reports.

Cheers,
Nikola

They are the same group of coins. I think 3/4 is the same coin and was my coin as well. However, because I can't be sure, I have returned it to the dealer. They still haven't taken down the other copy in their current auction. If you made a fake coin report, I think that's probably enough. My coin may have been the original as the cracks were much larger on my coin and the level of detail better than the other coins. So I'm not going to make a fake coin report for mine (as I'm not sure).

That was the conclusion of the thread as well :) - That coin may be original. I personally doubt it, the forgers are good in introducing cracks into the casts. I had 2 coins from the same auction house that were casts with good cracks, so I would say it was a good call to return it.

Here is the link to the fake report with a note that number 4 may be original:
