Hello again Coin Friends,
Well, that just about wraps up the EB
album of Late
Romans, although there will no doubt be a few stragglers. I did my best with the attributions, given my limited knowledge and experience. There are several where I just left the reference as "
Cf. XXX".
There have been some friendly comments, very much appreciated. I'll just point out 2 or 3 coins in passing:
This
FEL TEMP is quite nice. Although somewhat diminished by the double-strike
reverse, I like to imagine the spirit of the dying horseman lifting out of
his body.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-149656Constantius I was impeccably groomed. Did anyone notice the
reverse legend? It reads, and I swear I am not making this up,
SCRAM ONE THUG GET CHESS NOSER.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-149680My favorites are not always the rarest or best preserved. I am especially fond of this
Gallienus. He has a quizzical expression, and
Mars on the
reverse looks like he is stepping out of a time machine.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-149950 What's next? Well the next box of about 40 coins is labeled "Mostly
Ptolemaic Egypt", but seems to include a few
Roman imperials as well. Keep an eye out for some whopping big coins, there is an AE 43 of
Ptolemy IV weighing in at 69 grams for example.
The box after that is labeled "
Byzantine Empire". Mostly AE, but with a
Zeno Solidus tucked in as well.
Regards,
EB
