Hello All,

I am new to the coinage world and I am wondering if you can help me identify the following coin, it appears to be gold however I have no experience or means to tell if it's a fake coin, the coin has been unearthed accidentally but that does not guarantee it's authenticity.

I couldn't' find much info to go on and do my own research.

Many thanks
Ben

Thanks Mat for the quick response, a quick question what to look for to spot a fake?

Lettering, style and what looks like casting pits on yours.

Neither RIC (Roman Imperial Coins) nor Sear (Roman Coins and their Values III) list any gold coins for the Empress.
So the above comments are probably correct.

If true, it would be interesting to know the details.

Hi Ben,

The bust is resting on a crescent so it was copied or cast from an antoninianus which was not a gold coin. Your coin is certainly fake.

There is no gold coin for cornelia. The crescent as you show, come from antoninian. Can you post better photos please?
