Bronze SBCV 1847 Trachy?
« on: July 18, 2018, 02:05:13 am »
This coin has the design of the SBCV 1847, but is clearly not gold.  Any thoughts?

Weight = 3.8 grams
Max Diameter = 26 mm

Thanks!

Kevin

An old cast fake for gilding, as I see. ::)

That makes sense.  So - this would be the bronze core that would be "plated" with gold to pass for a gold histamenon nomisma of the same type.

Do you believe it to be a contemporary issue made in that timeframe - or more modern?
