ID help: is this a Justin II?
« on: June 20, 2018, 08:30:57 am »
Hi all, I have another messy coin here.

I assume this is Justin II with his wife? Can someone confirm or correct me on this and what kind of coin it is?

Copper/bronze, 15g in weight and approximately 3cm (30mm)

Thanks in advance.  ;D

Very nice coin! That's indeed a bronze follis, or 40 nummus (hence the big M on the reverse, being the Greek numeral for 40), coin.

An excellent example of Roman coinage from the early period of what we call the "Byzantine Era" today.
