Great coin. No attempt to embellish the
portrait on
part of the moneyer, which makes it seem close to the
imperator`s real appearance.
I have added a
portrait I recently got hold of (not my property, of course), because it also seemed quite realistic to me.
A
bust in
Berlin seems to resemble this
portrait. I added it below.
The truth is, however, that the coin
portraits are closer to
his original physiognomy than any
bust, because they do not idealize (not so small lips, a somewhat crooked, quite lengthy nose, a more protrudent Adam`s
apple ...), following a
republican tradition. The
Berlin bust already shows an idealized
portrait.
