As
part of my new-found quest to call out
fakes and then balance the universe by posting a real coin, herewith a real
fake: a
fouree of
RIC 79,
Sear 1918
This one must have been fairly convincing in its
youth -- the wear-through is mostly on the high points, edge
intact, with a hint of the silver wrap at 4:00.
AR
Denarius,
Nero as
Caesar under
Claudius. (
Fouree)
NERONI CLAVDIO DRVSO
GERM COS [DESIGN], bare-headed, draped
bust right
[EQVESTER-OR] DO-PRINCIPI-[IVVENT] in four lines on
shield with vertical spear behind.
[
contemporary imitation of]
RIC 79;
BMC 93,
RSC 97.
