Odessos-probably Caracalla, peculiar reverse
« on: May 23, 2018, 12:16:17 pm »
AE 19 mm, 4.10 g

WNINOC on obverse, so most likely Caracalla.   I have no idea what the reverse is.  At first, I thought it might be Heracles holding a lion skin and leaning on club, but can't find examples of that type of reverse with any of the Severans, nor any image that looks much like that on the coin.  Many thanks for any help with ID.

Hi Pekka K.,
There's certainly a similarity, but the obverse legends do not jive.  There's no E between the N and I on my coin.  But I'm even more convinced that the reverse is Heracles
