Interesting.  How long is it?  How thick is the tang?

Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy with schooling. The arrowhead measures 7.5 cm long. The thickness of the tang is around 1 cm circumference.

I asked because I wondered if it was indeed an arrowhead.  The length certainly matches though the tang is quite thick.

I have never seen the shape before.

Reminds me a little bit of a fire-bolt for a ballista.  That is if it was broken after it splits into three and the three parts actually once re-united.

Who knows...

Ah, I know with almost complete certainty what this is!

I've been collecting examples of the fearsome lead-weighted Roman Plumbata dart/javelin for years, and your item appears to be the point of just such a dart. There were of course variations in style through time and across the empire but the general rule was that the tip had a square/diamond cross-section and 2 barbs. Attached is a pic of some of my examples, plus a similar loose broken plumbata tip.

Good call!  Definitely a plumbata head.

I even have one but did not notice the similarity.  Blinded by the lack of lead on it.
