Talk about a lack of trust!

I know very little about these, it was just so cool I picked it up. One is an owl copying the reverse (the reverse at 3:00) anyone recognize any of these other marks?  Anyone have a coin with more countermarks?

Very neat !!

I know there was a listing prepared of bankers' marks found on Persian sigloi.  (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=countermarks%20on%20imperial%20persian%20sigloi)

Is anyone aware if a similar listing was ever compiled for "owls" or any other early coinages?

Refer to Peter G. van Alfen's articles in AJN 14 (2002), pp. 1-71, plates 1-17:

1) The "owls" from the 1989 Syria Hoard with a review of pre-Macedonian coinage in Egypt.

2) Two unpublished hoards and other "owls" from Egypt.

Plus fifth post in this thread https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=74126.0

The two papers are available for download on academia.edu.

That is one choice coin--I love it.  Many owls from a recent Syrian hoard have Semitic eingle letter countermarks, mainly on the cheek.  This is a fascinating and understudied area.

Thanks for the kind words and references guys.  Nice coin Canaan, I remember when you posted it.

I can't really make any positive IDs to the van Alfen plate even though some are similar.  I will look to find those papers on academia.edu.
