Brooch, Zoomorphic Dolphin, Gold-gilt
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:42:31 pm »
Ave!

Brooch, Zoomorphic dolphin, gold-gilt, ca. 1st-3rd Cent AD

Copper alloy; 32mm/11.2gm

Perhaps a Celtic/Romano motif of the leaping dolphin?

You tell me, please!

Best to all,

Kevin

IMO the Dolphin shape knee fibulae/brooch, but de pin are made/repaired, artificially modern time.

Is it copper with gold or copper with silver?

Quadrans is right that it is a knee derivative.  Likely dates to 175 - 250 AD.  Likely Pannonian manufacture.

Ave!

Shawn,

It's copper alloy with gold. Thanks for the time-line update and yes, it's from Pannonia.

Quadrans,

Yes, upon purchase, the seller was careful to point out that the pin was modern.  +++

Thanks and best to all,

Kevin
