Questions concerning green glass intaglio
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:21:30 pm »
Ave!

Such a tiny little thing, only 11mm/0.05gm.

I think that it may have been meant have been set into a Roman ring, maybe 1st-3rd Cent? But I'm no expert, you know?

A few other questions: As seen in the photo (and the Silly Putty inpress) we see who or what? Is it simply a Roman man wearing a toga, or a deity? Is it Roman or Renassance era? How was it made? Cast or carved?

Next, what is it called? Not a cameo.

Very best regards from your stumped amigo,

Kevin

Ave!

Thanks Joe!  +++

Looking through your eyes now, he does look very much like a snooty aristocrat, perhaps even wearing a wig?

Best regards,

Kevin

It looks renaissance to me too.

I think it counts as a cameo as it is a positive or convex image.

From a seal ring??

Ave!

It was purchased 'as is' but my thought that is was from a seal ring.

Best,

Kevin
