Medallion with Ancient Eastern Coinage Theme
« on: April 10, 2018, 03:23:13 pm »
Clearly modern and not a coin (but it's bronze), with a 'look' that perhaps someone here will recognize, or can say if it resembles coinage from a particular ancient area or it's just a vaguely 'Persian' style.  The portrait style is a bit reminiscent of Parthian kings.  Pretty nice medallic artwork that looks struck, but no obvious signature or sign of its origin.  It's impressively big, too - 54.3mm diameter and about 90 grams.  Thanks for any help with ID.

It's definitely a fantasy issue. The "script" looks like a poor rendering of Cuneiform, which was in use during the Parthian era, but not much. It's probably trying to be an older type of Persian, maybe Assyrian, Babylonian, Sumerian, etc?

The headgear and its decorations remind me of Assyrians such as Sennacherib (712 BC).
