SBCV 2024 or SBCV 2025?
« on: March 31, 2018, 09:53:52 am »
I lumped this into SBCV 2024 as it might just be a die shift, but not certain.  The ends of the cross seems to be different which would indicate SBCV 2025.  The globus cruciger is different between the two types.  One has a standard cross (SBCV 2024) whereas one has a patriarchal cross (SBCV 2025):

Latin Empire of Constantinople: Anonymous (1204-1261) Æ Large Module Trachy, Constantinople (SBCV 2024; DOC IV Type D, B.4; Grierson 1245; CLBC 11.4.1; Lianta 35-39)

Obv: IC XC in field; Bust of Christ, beardless and nimbate; holds scroll in left hand; Pellet in each limb of nimbus cross
Rev: ΜΑΝOVΗΛ-ΔЄCΠΟΤΗC; Full-length figure of emperor wearing stemma, divitision, collar-piece, jeweled loros of simplified type, and sagion; right hand holds scepter cruciger; left hand holds globus cruciger

I see the reason for your doubt, with the blundered Globus patriarchal cross vs simple cross. The belt though looks much like 2024, I have seen that described as a "st Andrew belt" style rather than the belt style called "saint Constantine's belt".

I would say based on belt style 2024.

You are spot on!  The belt gives it away.  Thanks wileyc....
