Alexander tet? Help needed! #1
« on: January 31, 2018, 07:11:56 pm »
I recently bought a group lot that included two Alexander type tets that are far out of my wheelhouse.  Both seem to be very light weight.

Any help would be appreciated.

This one is 15.01g

There are "Eastern" Barbarous examples of these known, such as this one:

https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3328447
Described therein as:
UNCERTAIN EAST. Circa 3rd-2nd Century BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 15.54 g, 11h).
In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing
lion skin / Zeus AĆ«tophoros seated left; wreath in left field. Price B36 (Barbarous)
.

They more-or-less confirm to the lighter weight of your item, and there are likely to
be many varieties and dies to search through to find a closer match to yours.
