Black stone statue head!!
« on: January 06, 2018, 01:06:23 pm »
Hello to all, this head figure got me stumped as the head cap is not familiar to me, it is 7.5Ă— 4.5 cm at the widest, any help narrowing this artifact would be most appreciated!!!!

Interesting.  Hat and the form of the eyes do not look Roman to me.  Looks a bit like the old stuff from Byblos but not that old.  Canaanite????

I don't know statuary, but it strikes me as an African woman, with her hair worn up. or maybe something like a turban.

What is the material?  What size?

Thanks Shawn, while each one of these examples has his own individual artistic characteristics, they seems to be very good options to compare with, i will check more examples from these civilizations!!!

What kind of black stone?  To me it looks like graphite, and if so it is suspect.
