For years my primary ancient interest has been folles of
RIC VI. I've also somewhat passively been putting together a "one nice/interesting coin
per emperor set" as opportunities came by. Altho at best a tertiary interest, I got serious this year and finally completed my
12 Caesars set but wanted something a little different than just
denarii (and frankly am not interested in spending the
money necessary to get uniformly nice examples of
denarii). So, my focus has finally settled on larger pieces, including eastern
cistophori, and
provincial coins with acceptable
portraits or interesting
types. Half of my set is likely to be replaced before I'm happy with it but there's no rush.
At any rate, I'm going to cheat and present two "best" or in my case "significant" 2017
FORUM buys: the very interesting counter-stamped
Claudius upgraded a common as and the Thessalonian copper for the defied
Julius Caesar replaced a small "
Paduan"
medal and finished the set for me.
