Easily my favorite thing about
Roman coins are the obverses; how they make us feel like we are looking right at the greatest
men and women of the ancient world, right in front of us. I am very excited to finally nab a
good portrait of
Quintillus, who is
notorious for
his lackluster portraiture!
Quintillus has long been one of my favorite obscure emperors, perhaps for how little we know of him, and the rather unfortunate circumstances of
his brief reign, ultimately forcing him to take
his own life to avoid civil war.
