Barcelona has a private museum of
Egyptian archaeology and artifacts containing many objects obtained long ago by the museum's founder in
Egypt. It's located near the center of town, only eight euros entry fee (about $10) and the
collection is nicely displayed over several floors. A few artifacts shown here include a giant late period funerary mask,
Ibis sculpture (with a
bit of a Dr. Seuss look), huge statue of Bes, and gold
Osiris (?)
head.
This private
Egypt museum is completely separate from the state/municipal archaeological museum (also
superb), which houses mostly
Roman and some Greek excavation finds from
Spain and the nearby islands. Here are a few pix from recent visit to the
Egypt museum, an unexpected find in Barcelona and worth a look.
