Welcome to FORVM Peter S4.

Take your time reading and studying the coins of interset to you, there are as you said many fakes on the market. Have a browse through the FORVM shop and fake coin reports, this will help you recognize genuine coins from the fakes. It might take awhile but will save you money in the long run.

P.S Start your own gallery if you havn´t already done so.

Good luck

Martin

Wow, it's scary how quickly the ancient coin addiction sets-in, eh? ... but man, they're so awesome!!

*BEWARE* => oh, but have a great time mixing coin-collecting and a sweet ancient history lesson! (*priceless*)

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the hobby!

If you are ever in Sydney, then perhaps try to make it to one the monthly
ancient coin meetings (ASAN, 4th Monday of the month).

There is also the ancient coin centre at Macquarie University, ACANS, which
is well worth a visit.

Australasian Coin and Banknote Magazine (CAB) has the occasional ancient
coin article that is worth reading (and some less so!), along with the regular
array of modern articles and notes. The resources are there for you.

Enjoy!

The experts probably ask more questions than anyone. That's how you get to be an expert in any subject.
