Ring from Latvia
« on: September 07, 2017, 09:09:12 pm »
I am mostly partial to collecting Roman items, but I saw this offered for only a couple of dollars and couldn't pass it up. I'm not really sure where to start with trying to identify it. The seller said that it was excavated by her grandfather in Latvia many years ago, and also gave me a simple bronze band ring that he found at the same time. Does anyone perchance know where I might begin trying to date this item? Pictures below, but I don't have much else to offer.

The design is so simple it was probably made as a blank ring and then engraved locally somewhere.  I suspect only a local museum in Latvia could give you more info.
