Constantine I - AE Follis/AE3
« on: August 29, 2017, 11:17:32 pm »
Hi all,

Cleaned this coin wet with a toothpick -  IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG - VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP (Constantine I - 307-337 AD)

I'm very happy with the coin and the details it shows but still it has lots of dirt deposits on it...
I'm afraid of rubbing too much with the toothpick and ruin the patina or some of the details the coin has...

Think I should leave it like this, keep at it with the toothpick or try another way???

Looks good. Further cleaning is a personal choice. It certainly isn't necessary.

Unless your coin's patina is very fragile you should not do any damage with a toothpick.  If you are having no luck with a toothpick (and I assume you used the harder round kind with pointy ends and not the old flat kind) then perhaps try a bamboo skewer.  These are a bit harder and you can give them sharp points with a knife.
