Severus Alexander - A lightweight?
« on: August 15, 2017, 11:23:42 pm »
I was browsing a thread about Nemonater's gallery that had popped up (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=84870.0) and saw one of his first posts was:

"Added an extremely light weight Severus Alexander.  But it seems there are even lighter ones out there!"

refering to this coin here:

This brought to mind a coin in my own collection, see below, which I had brought more or less on a whim and then dismissed as a likely fake after getting it in hand and weighing it. Weighing in at an impressively light 1.59g, I wonder if it be one of the "even lighter" examples of Severus Alexander's denarius. If so, I thought it might be interesting to share.
