Spear head thoughts
« on: August 11, 2017, 03:18:44 pm »
Hello to all, i bought some time ago this spear head from ebay along with other items, and after recieving it, i noticed that there is a casting seam!!! And the patina looks artificial!!! Also i am not able to identify from what period the manufacture was!!! Also the head is very flat in a wierd way!!! What do you think????

Genuine arrowheads of this type were cast, but the patina looks fake.  I have doubts.

I am currently studying arrowheads.  My work in progress is here - https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Ancient%20Metal%20Arrowheads.  I have a long way to go before it is done.

I haven't been studying spear heads, but I can't help but look at many photos of them in the refs when I am looking for arrowheads. I don't think I have seen any that look quite like yours.

Ave Cannan,

I agree with Joe for whatever my thoughts are worth; not the correct shape and the patina seems bogus.

Joe, your arrowhead work in progress is truly spectacular. Kudos and thanks for sharing it with us all.

Best regards,

Kevin

So it is most likely a fake, or just maybe a late islamic issue!!!!

I don't know anything about late Islamic points but I suspect they would be iron.

I cannot authenticate it and I strongly suspect it is fake, however, my knowledge is too limited to condemn it.
