Hi,

Welcome to FORVM!

This looks like an Islamic coin.
I cannot vouch for its authenticity or help narrow it down any further.

Perhaps you can re-post this under the "Other Types of Ancient Coins" Board or a moderator can move it there for you so you can get a response from someone more knowledgeable about these kinds of coins.

I have some doubts that it is a genuine coin. It may be an imitative fantasy coin, intended to look like an Islamic coin.

Thanks for the response.

I took it to goldsmith and he confirmed this being of pure gold.

Weight is 4.420 Grams to be exact.

Kindly if you put in detail your thoughts of coin why not be genuine?

+1

The first word ( up right )  is Al Sultan ( the king ) , which missing N on the coin.
Maybe an  an imitative fantasy of Mamalik or Mamluk Bahri.

Coin is not clear to read.

I can't read Arabic but it looks like fake script copying Arabic, not real Arabic to me.

Sam, who wrote the post above, can read Arabic. His +1 is a strong confirmation. I was hoping he would give an opinion. Christian crusaders sometimes struck imitatives of Islamic coins. This might be one, but I cannot confirm that.

OK ,  the letters are "funny "
As example the Almohad state used this type of letter but not this bad.

On this photo from top to bottom ; the third line from right to left suppose to state the ruler 's name ; I can hardly read Dabous دبوس
It could be wrong (?)   ( a ruler from the Almohad  called  Abu Dabbus , also called Idris al-Wathiq )

Or could be Abou  ( Father of  ( the classic way for rulers name in Islamic ) )  , I can not read after that in that line .

the 4th line   is  Son of the Sultan  بن السلطان

The last line  Could be   بكسد      B K S D   ( Which suppose to be the Sultan 's Father )  or mint city (?)

Is it OK to post from Wiki

I have been still searching , also the Ghorids ( Mamalik of  Syria ) has some close ones but a lot better type of letter .

The closest are for Sultan Alaa Al Din Mahmoud  علاء الدين محمود  ( could be an  imitative of )

Real Thanks Sam for your suggestions. What i can get is that you cannot say anything for sure because coin is not Clear but your closest Guess is a Coin from the time of Sultaan Alaa Al Din Mahmoud Shah https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alauddin_Mahmud_Syah_I

Do you know any Collector of Ancient Islamic Coins of this era, or some other appropriate place on this forum where i should ask for further details of this coin.

Please keep me posted for any further findings of yours on this.

Thanks in Advance

Adnan , I am just thinking of possibilities.
Joe's theory is very strong , with this type of poor letter.

Bakkar is a friend of all here , he collects Islamic coins and deal with , a lot more than me ( I do not collect Islamic )

Dear Adnan, Sam, Joe and board

This is Khwarizmshahs, 'Ala al-Din Muhammad b. Takish, AV dinar, mint and date off flan. The inscription on obv.
السلطان الاعظم
علا الدنيا والدين
ابو الفتح محمد
بن السلطان
تكش
On reverse, Shahada and the Caliph's nam of al - Nasir

The dinar is ancient but common and in low grade.

Hope this helps

Real Thanks bakkar for sharing your insights on this.

Any say on how much can be the cost of this coin based on its condition? We verified it from a goldsmith and he confirmed its ancient and pure gold. Weight is 4.20 Grams.

Regards,

bakkar

The coin is common and in horrible condition, therefore the value of the coin is only the current price of  4.20 gms of gold.
