Doubtful SBCV 2477 of Andronicus III?
« on: July 21, 2017, 07:10:16 pm »
We've seen this one before, but I'm starting to have doubts about it.
Is it a cast copy? The dies are well known, but I haven't seen a possible host coin.
The asking price (Eu 75) seems very low for this rare and sought after type.

Dear Glebe,

This is the same coin that was sold a year ago.
Images coincide as well. Perhaps it was not redeemed.
I do not remember which seller sold it earlier.

Yes, this is the same coin (and seller).
The trouble is the edge cracks - they seem to be filled, but is it with metal or they just clogged with clay?

It's clay in the cracks.
Such a patina is difficult to forge.
I think this is a genuine coin.
