fake Rhegium Tetradrachm
« on: June 25, 2017, 07:31:51 am »
I think that my fake (ordered it together with Akragas tetradrachm, hope to receive it next week), is from the same dies as the coins pictures 2 and 3 and they do look fake and were listed as unsold which can means withdrawn (because many auction houses list withdrawn coins as unsold) .
The coin on picture 4 seems to be from the same dies (was sold by 3 reputable auction houses) but I can not tell for sure, I do not know if these fakes are made from recutted transfer dies or completely modern dies.
So the coin from picture 4 could be authentic if the other fakes are from recutted transfer dies.

Modern dies or recutted transfer dies?
Your help is very much appreciated!

I would not be surprised if #4 is authentic and the others are transfer dies from an authentic host, but I'd want to study the series to be sure.  The overall fabric of 2 and 3 seems unnatural and both look fake to me too.

The coin picture 4 from my last post is authentic and likely the authentic host.
Some letters have been recutted letter H the middle stroke looks different in the dies and on the fakes etc.
