Found in Lincolnshire field
« on: June 19, 2017, 05:41:11 pm »
Hello, firstly let me appologise for the the very basic details I have on this find, I found it in a Field in Croft Lincolnshire, I realise that is very worn, I have been scouring the web for weeks and its driving me nuts.
It only has any visible markings left on one side, it is incredibly difficult to make out the symbology.
It has a 3 leafed laurel pattern around the ringed centre, the pattern ends on either side and between that gap all I can identify are possibly the letters PLATEI.
I really would be very gratful for any assistance or ideas

I don't think there is much chance of success with this photo.

It would also help if you tell us the size and show both sides.

Thank you, I wont be able to upload better photos until the weekend, the other side of the coin has no recognisable features left at all. Its acually about the size of a 1/2 penny
I have attached a rough sketch, The lettering is my best guess, the 6th letter is unreadable.

Hi, it doesn't look like any type of coin that I have ever found in 20 years+ metal detecting in England. Are you sure it isn't a button? The inscription looks suspiciously like "Plated" ?

I think the idea that it might be a button or button backing may be right.
