Help with SNG Cop - Carthaginian coinage
« on: June 18, 2017, 01:27:58 pm »
Hello to all,
can anyone explain me the differences between SNG Cop 94-97 and SNG Cop 1021-1024, please?
I tried to search on the net and the only difference I found is that SNG Cop 94-97 is used for Carthage coinage in Zeugitana, while SNG Cop 1021-1024 is for Carthage coinage in Sicily.
But the question is: how can I estabilish if a coin is referenced to Zeugitana or Sicily, when them seem the same?

P.S. You can find some examples here:

http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/sicily/punic/t.html [SNG Cop 1021 and 1024]

There seems to be some misunderstanding.

SNGCop 94 = SNGSicily 1020,
SNGCop 95 = SNGSicily 1021,
SNGCop 96 = SNGSicily 1022,
SNGCop 97 = SNGSicily 1023.

Same 4 coins in 2 different SNG-volumes.

Nicola

Smaller denominiation 1.56 g.

SNGCop 98 = SNGSicily 1024.

Thanks to all for your replies  :)
I would still ask, how can I distinguish these 5 coins (SNG Cop 94...98)?
I have a coin probably Siculo-Punic or from Zaugitana, Carthage that I posted here for ID: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=111819.0 and I'm unable to find the right reference number. The coin's weight is 5 g while the diameter 15 mm.

Thanks again,
Nicola

94: 7.35 g, 95: 5.39 g, 96: 4.31 g, 97: 3.65 g
all the same type and denominiation.

98: as I said above, smaller coin.

Thank you again Pekka, so I presume that them have the same diameter; and according to this, my coin is SNG Cop 95 (SNG Sicily 1021).

Best regards from Italy,
Nicola
