Rare Carrhae coins
« on: June 12, 2017, 07:58:57 am »
These two rare Carrhae coins recently sold on ebay.  I did not win the bids, too high for me.   I'm not familiar with the Septimius Severus coin, I don't have a reference for it.

1. Antoninus Pius/crab, crescent, 2.7g 15mm, RPC online 9575, sold for $880

2. Septimius Severus with Caracalla/Geta?, 4.9g 19mm, reference???, sold for $293

I saw them as well and hoped to win the Antoninus Pius.
But in vain :(

Maybe you have been lucky then, because I am pretty sure that coin does not belong to Pius. More likely, it is a coin of Caracalla, roughly contemporary with the other one with busts of Severus, Geta and Caracalla.
