ID Help - Large self cleaned Roman
« on: June 11, 2017, 10:59:23 am »
Hi Guys,

Got this coin in a lot of 10 uncleaned Roman coins.
They came incredibly encrusted and being a novice, I had some trouble cleaning.
Think I made a bit of mess out of it.
Cant make out much from the Obverse but some of the lettering is readable.
The reverse clearly reads SC so i know that this in fact roman.
Style is different to any of the late empire coins I have so I think this may be early Empire

Other than that not sure were to start with this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi david,

I see "...CLAVDIVS..." on the obverse.

Could the reverse be Spes?

Hi Meepzorp,

Thanks for getting back to me.
Yeah you are right. It does look very similar to you the first coin on that link.
Looks like a CLAVIDIVS for sure. Thanks!
Your coin is a much better example though. :-)
